Attention Must Be Paid

One of the things I want everyone to think about throughout the quarter is how they view the world and how that may be similar or different from others.  Each artist that we see has historical references in their art work and people who have taught them but what they are choosing to show is solely their specific vision.  In the end, what you are creating should be unique from everyone else in the class because you are unique.  If you have a specific "Big Idea" you want to deal with, ask me and I can point you in the direction of some artists that might challenge and inspire you.

This class, like all classes (and relationships for that matter), will give you back what you put into it.

Thinking about pushing limits

How do you take something simple and use it in a new way?  What can be invented by turning an object on its head?  How does the object's definition change?

These are questions I think about when explaining the creation of contemporary art to people.  Find your niche.
